Overview
As you may recall, Dr. Wilson engaged the district’s teaching staff and a few administrators in four working groups with the charge of formulating program plans to move MUSD forward in the areas of effective instruction, a consistently applied curriculum, professional development, and bolstering our collaborative culture. The intent of these program plans was to strengthen our larger district effort around re-organizing our work within professional learning community processes. The working groups’ diligent efforts led to several recommendations, all of which demanded that we re-align some programs, processes, and personnel at the district level to better facilitate turning the recommendations into action – and results.

Consequently, PPAC, Research and Evaluation, Instructional Services, and Professional Development were all placed under a single umbrella that is named the Office of Professional Practice. The intent and goal of this re-alignment is to keep our efforts better coordinated in order to target increasing teachers’ capacity to organize and apply curriculum, deliver instruction, and leverage data for instructional improvement (these three are at the heart of teachers’ professional practice, hence the office’s name). Recognizing that technological tools will increasingly be a part of how teachers manage these tasks, support for technology specific to instruction was also included under this umbrella.

Department Mission
The Office of Professional Practice is committed to serving our teachers by providing professional development and support in evidence-based methods through curriculum, instruction, and assessment to increase student learning and achievement.
